If you really want me to, I'll detail every single one of those. all have perfectly reasonable explanations. Things like Race X not being mentioned again, gonomes not being used again, Shephard not being chosen to replace Freeman, etc. None of the "contradictions," including the ones you used as examples, are actually contradictions. And even today, nothing in the Gearbox games contradicts the series' lore. In addition to that, Gearbox got the voice actors to reprise their roles, and both Gearbox and Marc Laidlaw ensured that nothing in the expansions contradicted the series' lore. What makes the Gearbox games canon is that Marc Laidlaw worked with Gearbox to make them, alongside other people from Valve. What makes things canon isn't them being referenced again in future titles. That's one of the biggest plot points of Opposing Force (if not *the* biggest) being confirmed to be canon by Marc Laidlaw, himself, right there. Kleiner's last names were both taken from the Gearbox games, and Marc Laidlaw even directly confirmed that Black Mesa getting nuked is canon. Because even that *was* a rule, it wouldn't apply to the Gearbox games. What is this rule you've invented that if things from previous games aren't referenced in new games then those previous games become non-canon? Who decided that was the case? Was it Marc Laidlaw? I don't think so.
